The Lal kitab is much similar to the Vedic astrology for in both, the nine planets have been accorded prominence. Predictions of an individuals' horoscope is mainly based on the position of the planets according to the twelve houses. But however the Lal Kitab and the Vedic astrology differs for both the houses and the zodiac signs are fixed in the former whereas in the later only the houses are fixed and not the zodiac signs. The Lal Kitab is able to identify the malefic planets and provide easy and effective remedies which are infallible to nullify the ill effects caused by the planets. They also give quick results.

But however care should also be taken when we take up Lal kitab remedies for it is capable of back -firing if it is not performed the right way. It also advises to stop performing the remedies when it is showing negative effects. The Lal Kitab remedy can be started at any time preferably during day time in the presence of the Sun but the only condition is that it should be performed without a break for 43 continuous days. No effect can be seen for the remedies observed either before dawn or after sunset. Besides there remains the possibility of loss. If it is interrupted due to some obstacles or if it is forgotten then it is suggested to be discontinued for few days and then again freshly restart the process without break for the next 43 days.

The remedies work more effectively when rice washed with milk is kept nearby before the observance is started. The Lal Kitab also states it is the only field of astrology which correlates the planetary positions in one's horoscope which will reflect in the lines of the palm. Lal kiatb can also be astro -palmistry which is a blend of both the arts namely Palmistry and Jyotisha. The book gets its name Lal kitab because it was published in a red hard cover. The color red has lot of religious significance both in Hinduism and Islam. Red color is supposed to be a very auspicious color in Hindu religion and it also signifies Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Also in those days a business ledger should be bound in red color which was more of a tradition.

All auspicious and religious occasions in Hinduism will never take place without the red kumkum. The Lal Kitab volumes were also given a red binding because it can be said that they are the ledger book of one's life or in Hindi it is said to contain duniyavi hisaab kitaab. Lal Kitab dictates in clear terms that any book dealing with this system must be bound in non-shining, red color. In the Lal Kitab science of astrology easy and affordable remedies are suggested which are little tedious and not expensive remedies like pooja and wearing of gemstones which is the most common remedy in other branches of astrology and Jyotisha. There are lots of people not only in India but also abroad who follow the Lal kitab remedies as this science of astrology is becoming very popular in different parts of the world.

Also most of the remedies suggested by the Lal Kitab have become a part of our everyday culture like throwing coins in the river, feeding the cow with grass and dogs with bread etc.Lal Kitab has suggested some general remedies for those who are afflicted with different planetary positions. Lal kitab suggests for those with a weak Sun to wear a white cap for the concerned person and also distribution of sweets for the blind people will bring the person with good luck and fortune. The remedy for a weak Moon in the natal chart includes to donate free milk to the needy more generously and to avoid making a way of living by selling milk. A person with a weak Mars is suggested by the Lal kitab to wear a silver ring in the smallest finger.

When the planet Mercury is weak in a person's birth chart Lal Kitab strictly advises to abstain from non-vegetarian and alcohol and not to grow money plant in the house.
