Mercury is the nearest planet to the Sun and its mean distance is about 36 million miles. It is the smallest planet in the Solar System with a diameter of about 3000 miles. It is 1.5 times bigger than the Moon. It is also the swiftest moving planet. It moves from 18 deg to 28 deg to maintain its angular distance from the Sun.

The cycle of Mercury is short but variable, taking anything between 15 and 70 days to travel through one cycle of the zodiac.
