HIDDENITE

Overview:

Hiddenite is named after W.E. Hidden, who discovered this new gemstone in Alexander County, North Carolina in 1879. Hiddenite is the green gem variety of the mineral Spodumene .Hiddenite exhibits strong pleochroism, showing lighter and more intense coloring when viewed at different angles.


Hiddenite is strongly pleochroic, meaning there is a color intensity variation when a crystal of it is viewed from different directions. Hiddenite is an attractive gem mineral, but is rare and for the most part known only to collectors. Because of its fragility, it is mostly sold as specimen rough.
