ACTINOLITE

Overview:

An excellent stone for metaphysical shielding, Actinolite expands the aura and crystallizes its edges. Connecting you to higher awareness, it brings body, mind, psyche and spirit into balance and is an excellent aid to visualization. A useful stone if you have encountered blockages or personal resistance on your spiritual

path, it dissolves that which is unwanted or inappropriate. Bringing all the functions of the body into harmony and stimulating growth, Actinolite assists it to adjust to changes or traumas.

Usage:

Actinolite is used to improve self-esteem, stress, the immune system, liver, kidneys.

Actinolite is one of the amphibole group of minerals. Because its molecular structure is made up of long double chains of silicon atoms, actinolite forms long, thin crystals, sometimes even fibers.

Legend:

Actinolite forms from the olivine in many igneous rocks under conditions of high pressure and fairly low temperature.

Occurence:

It has been found in the Moonta and Wallaroo mines in Western Australia; Tyrol, Austria, and Bahia, Brazil and in North America.

(Thus actinolite is sometimes classified as asbestos.) Its green color reflects a high iron content–the white variety without iron is called tremolite. Actinolite gets its green color from the presence of iron in its structure. The amount of iron varies among specimens, causing different contrasts of green. If a mineral has less than two percent of iron in the structure (which is replaced by magnesium), then it is not Actinolite, but Tremolite. Actinolite and Tremolite share the same chemical formula, but Actinolite has a greater presence of iron over magnesium, whereas Tremolite has a greater presence of magnesium over iron. Because they share the same formula, there are varieties that belong to both.
