There are number of teachers colleges which are operated both by government and private organizations to certify, govern and enforce the standards of practice for the teaching profession. There is a significant difference between primary and secondary teaching where in primary schools each class has a teacher who stays with them for most of the week and will teach them the whole curriculum. In secondary schools they will be taught by different subject specialists each session during the week and may have 10 or more different teachers. There is a system of education USA called as "platoon" system, involves placing a group of students together in one class that moves from one specialist to another for every subject. There is a new trend of co-teaching where the co-teachers work harmoniously with the main teacher to fulfill the needs of every student in the classroom. Co-teaching focuses the student on learning by providing a social networking support that allows them to reach their full cognitive potential.

Stephen Morris

STEPHEN MORRIS
joined the physics department as an assistant professor in 1993 and became associate professor with tenure in 1998.Morris teaches throughout the physics curriculum from first year through to the graduate level. This year and last, Morris has been one of the instructors for a first-year course, "Fundamentals of Physics," a challenging course for many students. The department of physics gives Morris and his co-Instructor, Mike Luke, much of the credit for the 21 per cent increased enrollment in second-year chemistry. The increase, they believe, is because both instructors have been so successful in keeping students enthusiastic throughout the course.

In recognition of his teaching in this course, Morris received the 2003 APUS/SAC award for excellence in teaching, an award managed entirely by students. His students describe him as approachable, enthusiastic, humorous, creative, dedicated and innovative in his approach to teaching. Morris brings his research into the classroom and brings the classroom into his laboratory. By organizing tours of his lab, Morris gives his students a unique opportunity to see physics at work in his own research.

Of his performance as a teacher, one student comments: I found Professor Morris to be very conscious of the fact that students were coming from many different backgrounds, and quite good in polling the class to see if students felt confused about something in the lesson that might be presumed knowledge. He seemed genuinely excited about what he was teaching us. I truly appreciated his effort to organize activities outside of class, such as lab tours and movie days. He even prompted us to start a physics club.
