Palmistry or Palm Reading is an occult science which is said to have originated long ago in India, China, and Sumeria. By analysing the hand, the shape of the hand, the fingers, the lines and mounts present in the palm, the future is foretold. The palm holds the past, present and future experiences of the person under study.

Aristotle did say that" Lines are not written into the human hand without a reason". Of course, it is true. The Heart line, the Head line, the Life line and a couple of other lines in the palm are analysed for accurate results. These lines have a greater significance in Palm reading.

In India, Palmistry was called as “Hast Samudrik Shastra”. According to this the lines and marks in the palm of a hand holds the blue print for a man's life. It mirrors the individual and reveals his basic instincts and hold keys to his past and the present. If you are lacking your exact date of birth, then Palmistry would be a good bet to forecast your future.

Palmistry is divided into two branches.

• Chirognomy (Shape of hand)

• Chiromancy (Lines of hand)

Chirognomy : It is the study of the shape of hand. The mounts, texture, quality and length of hand and fingers indicate the basic instincts, nature and temperament of the person.

Chiromancy : It is the study of lines of our hand which reveal the past, present and future of the person.

History of Palmistry

Palmistry had early origins in many regions across the world as per ancient records. Mural relics show that palmistry was long practised in India. Palmistry also has a long history in China, since the Zhou Dynasty (1045–256 BC) more than 3,000 years ago. The ancient Chaldeans also had a separate discipline in forecasting related to palmistry.

An extensive treaty on palmistry was written by Aristotle, the great. It is said that the Buddha had perfect lines in his hands that made him a Great Saint. It is said that some European governments of long ago, recruited gypsies to spy on people by reading their hands.

In India, you can still see Palm readers in the narrow alleys of certain pilgrimage-based cities and towns. They woo you to get your palm read. Nag you till you settle down for a reading. They do it for a pittance though. However the modern day Palm reading, particularly the internet-based one, has become a costly affair.

It said that one Cheiro is the forefather of palmistry or palm reading of the present stage. He used astrology, numerology, graphology and palmistry to analyse the people who came to him in order to know their future. Research studies on palm reading show that it can be used as a valuable tool to diagnose and analysis the physical and mental health of people.

Which hand should be read in palmistry

In palmistry, the left hand relates to congenital information while the right hand relates to postnatal information. The right hand takes priority in the palm studies. In general, the right palm is used to determine 80% of a reading and the left palm determines the other 20%.

Overall, when conducting palmistry, a palmist mainly uses the right palm and then adds or subtracts from the information according to the readings from the left palm. Well, ideally, you should read both. It is said that the left hand shows your potential, while the right hand shows what you've done with that potential.

Some schools of thought project the right for female and left for male natives. As a matter of fact, both of your hands play great importance in hand reading. But one is dominant and the other is passive. The left hand usually represents what you were born with physically and materially and the right hand represents what you become after grown up. So, the right hand is dominant in palm reading and the left for supplement. However in case of left-handers the opposite holds true.
