The sphere of mass communication being widely spread requires a combination of skills and traits. Different areas asks for different qualities, but for anyone to take on any of the fields of mass communication definitely requires better than average performance in whatever one does. However to pursue a career in this field one has to have a graduate or post graduate degree in this discipline.

There are a number of universities and institutes offering diploma and certificate courses also in journalism. There are specialized courses related to this area like sports, television, photo, press law etc.Specialization in such related courses increases one's opportunities in the field.



Apart from academic qualifications one should have an inquisitive mind, will power, an aptitude for presenting information in an accurate, concise and effective manner, organize their thoughts and to express themselves clearly both orally and in writing. In general, excellent communication skills, being a good team player are important, besides being confident and hardworking. Physical stamina and will power count in favour for jobs in mass communication. Other attributes vary from one another depending upon the area one pursues.
