Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for gemology vary with different institutes \ universities which offer both graduation and short term diploma courses. The qualifications for research in the field are degrees in geology, chemistry or physics. Apart from graduation courses in Jewelry designing there are also diploma courses in Diamond Technology, Diamond Processing, Diamond Trade management etc.

Certificate course includes International system of Grading, Cutting, Polishing, Bruiting, Hard Shape Grooving,Coloured Gemstone Cutting & Polishing, Machine Cast Jewellery etc. They should be well aware of in customs and tradition as well as the latest trends as they influence art forms and design. One who wants to be a gemologist should possess following qualities which may help him specialize in this work:

• a keen eyesight

• creativity

• imagination

• aesthetic sense and a sense of color combination

• knowledge of traditional designs

• communicative skills

• an ability to work hard and feel the pulse of the customers
