The flag of Namibia was adopted on 21 March1990 and its main colour is got from the flag of West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), a Liberation movement in Namibia .It was on this day South West Africa got its independence as Republic of Namibia.

The flag of Namibia has a narrow white band with a broad red streak or band

in between thus diagonally separating the flag from lower raise corner to upper fly corner. The triangle close to the hoist side is blue in colour whereas the lower fly-side is green colour.There is a sharp yellow sun representing life and energy in the blue triangle which is 12 rayed and is also used to signify power and existence. According to the Hindu religion, Sun is one of the Dev or Gods among five Gods or the Panchadev .The history of the worship of the sun is connected with ancient Vedic rituals. There are five different colours used in this flag in which green is a symbol of cultivation and growth of plants ,blue stands for the sky ,rain and water.The white streak bordering the red band is a symbol of tranquility and harmony.



The sun is taken as the head of the planets and a symbol of the soul. Similarly, the moon is taken as the head of the asteroids and a symbol of the heart. The flag is formed by two triangles. In the top triangle is a 12 rayed sun which is white. The sun in the lower part has 12 triangles altogether. The sun is the heavenly symbol of fire. It is even the symbol of life because it provides the heat necessary for living beings. It soaks up the water and gives it back in the form of rain, making food production possible on earth. It stands for the primary karmic shaping that is to be pubundergone in this lifetime. Blue is a symbol of cold for it is related to sky and deep sea. The white colour is precise, critical, and sincere and in the Namibians flag it is used as the symbol of purity.
