BLOODSTONE (HELIOTROPE)

Overview:

This stone assists in living in the present moment but 3,000 years ago, in ancient Babylon, it was used to overcome enemies and was believed to cause stone walls to fall. It was said to have mystical and magical properties, controlling the weather and conferring the ability to banish evil and negativity and to direct spiritual energies.

In ancient times it was regarded as an 'audible oracle' that gave warning of danger. Bloodstone is an excellent blood cleanser and immune stimulator, and a powerful healer and revitalizer. With its grounding and protecting properties, Bloodstone keeps out undesirable influences. It teaches how to avoid dangerous situations by strategic withdrawal and flexibility and assists the recognition that chaos often precedes transformation. The mineral heliotrope, also known as bloodstone, is a form of chalcedony (which is a cryptocrystalline mixture of quartz and its monoclinic polymorph moganite).

Bloodstone is dark–green variety of the silica mineral chalcedony that has nodules of bright-red jasper distributed throughout its mass. Polished sections therefore show red spots on a dark-green background, and from the resemblance of these to drops of blood it derives its name. Its physical properties are those of quartz. Bloodstone is an inexpensive stone. It is often used for pendants and bead necklaces.
