Eligibility

A dietician should preferably complete a graduation or post graduation in the field of nutrition and dietetics or its related branch. Preferable fields of graduation for this career also involve Microbiology, Chemistry, Home Science, and Medicine, Hotel management or catering technology. There are number of institutions which also offer diploma in this and related fields.

Experienced dietitians usually become consultants or run a dietetics department. The food technologists have graduate/postgraduate degrees in the field, which are offered at various institutes. Since the work varies, the professionals are taken from different disciplines.



Apart from academic qualifications a person who has an interest in food and diets along with an aptitude for science is suited for this profession. Good communication skills and qualities like patience and concern for living beings are vital for taking up this profession.
