To pursue a career in this science based field one should have a graduation or post graduation in this discipline. There are more number of universities which offer courses on the primitive method of agriculture and farming and also the latest methods practiced. There is short term diploma and certificate courses in the allied are of agriculture.

Specialisations in agriculture include agricultural economics, agricultural chemistry, animal husbandry and dairy, horticulture, farming system management and agricultural marketing management.



Apart from academic qualifications they should have the ability to work on one's own as well as part of a team, good health, indifference to unpleasant weather conditions, practical ability, good powers of observation to detect early signs of disease in plants, animals and poultry, ability to deal with the unexpected calamity and interest in scientific developments. Teaching requires the ability to communicate to provide practical and factual information in simple language, patience and to infuse enthusiasm for learning in students. Another important trait required is love for the outfields; stay in rural India and far from the fast urban world.
