The flag of Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam came into consideration as the National Flag of Tamileelam in 1990.

There are so many guides and regulations to let the flag fly. The Tiger emblem in the flag has undergone various changes from its original form. The Tiger in the flag which was originally white in colour represents the martial

valour and the uniqueness of Tamil language and culture. The four basic colours in the flag are yellow, red, black, and white where each colour talks about the mission of this organization. The yellow colour in the flag talks more about the human rights and struggle for freedom. It also signifies the aspired people who want to govern themselves in their country and it also signifies at any circumstances the people should not let their moral go. With red colour we learn that the organizations not only want a separate state but instead the people should teach other irrespective of caste, class and sex. Eagalitarianism should become our spiritual principle. The black colour in the flag is to make the people understand that on their way to struggle of freedom they will have to undergo lot of hardships which might be pain, misery or even death at times. White demands purity, honesty and selflessness from the leaders and citizens of Tamileelam."

The flag is red in colour with the image of a tiger in the centre. The tiger in the center is surrounded by a by a weapon stand kind of structure with two rifles in it. But however a sudden look into it gives as though rays of sunlight radiating around the tiger. Astrologically the red colour in the flag is active, daring, passionate, and optimistic. It enhances alertness and encourages activity. Red is held to be the most intense colour, the furthest from both black and white, and it is noteworthy that those languages which only have words for three basic colours always select black, white, and red. This colour in astrology signifies passion, warmth, vigor, strength and vitality which are also the nature of the people of LTTE.

Red being related to fire and blood it is considered to be symbol of heat. It is even believed that red is the first colour used by human beings. The sun like picture surrounding the sun is the heavenly symbol of fire. It is even the symbol of life because it provides the heat necessary for living beings. Yellow is considered as the most positive of colours and the closest to pure light. It also symbolizes the Sun. For years yellow ribbons were worn as a sign of hope as women waited from their men to come marching home from war. Today, they are still used to welcome home loved ones and denotes active, daring, passionate, and optimistic. It enhances alertness and encourages activity. The black colour in the flag is used to signify that the people are formal, conventional, and dignified. It symbolized power, strength, authority, elegance and death.

Numerology is the study of numbers, and the occult manner in which they reflect certain aptitudes and character tendencies, as an integral part of the cosmic plan. The tiger which is 1 in number according to numerology signifies the leadership skills, goal-oriented, strong will power,courageous,unconventional, inventive and creative skills of the LTTE'S.The 2 number of rifles denotes the gentle, subtle, cooperative and loving nature of people.
