Full Moons In 2023 - And how they stand to affect our lives

The Moon is one of the luminary and it rules our emotions and feelings while the Sun is the other luminary that stands for our personality and how we interact with others. The entire lunar cycle and more particularly the New Moon and the Full Moon stand to affect our mental well being and our love relationships. The Moon rules over female energy and affects fertility. Much like the waxing and the waning of the Moon, our emotions and moods  here on planet earth also change.

The Full Moon

On a Full Moon day, the Moon is behind the earth with respect to the  Sun and we get to see the illuminated side of the Moon.  While a New Moon is all about new beginnings, the Full Moon is always of intense energy, a time for change and climax. The Full Moon stands to affect intensely us human beings on planet earth. On a Full Moon, the entire disc of the Moon would be visible to us if the night sky is cloud-free.

January 6, 2023 – Full Moon in Cancer- Wolf Moon

The full Moon in January would be on the 6th  at 6:08 p.m. EST or 11:08 p.m. UTC and this would be the first Full Moon in 2023. This is also called as the Wolf Moon  simply because hungry wolves used to roam the Northern hemisphere during the cold winters days of January. This Full Moon is also called as Old Moon or the Moon after Yule.

With the Moon in Cancer, this Full Moon would be all about our emotions. Our inner soul would be awakened to its senses. This Moon emphasizes arouses our sub conscious and major life altering changes would be taken, not by our brains but by our hearts around this day. The Full Moon attracts us more towards families and friends when all sorts of nurturing and caring would be highlighted. February 5, 2023 – Full Moon in Leo- Snow Moon

The Full Moon in February occurs on the 5th at 1:29 p.m. EST or 6:29 p.m. UTC. The Moon would be in the zodiac house of Leo. This is also called as the Snow Moon simply because, the northern hemisphere would be frigid cold with snow around this time every year. This Full Moon is also called as the Hunger Moon because the wild animals find it difficult to find food in the blazing cold clime. 

As the Full Moon is found in the sign of Leo, we would be more generous and ambitious on this day. We might strive for attention and validation of our standing. Have adventure and fun for the day, but do not try to dominate others around resulting in unwanted rifts.

March 7, 2023 – Full Moon in Virgo- Worm Moon

In March, the Full Moon will occur on a Tuesday on the  7th,  at 7:40 a.m. EST or 12:40 p.m. UTC. It will be the full moon in the zodiac sign of Virgo. This full Moon is also known as the Worm Moon because around this time, the earthworms are said to wriggle out from their earthy abode once the winter edges on. This is also termed as the Crow Moon or the Sap Moon. 

This full Moon in the sign of Virgo might make us a bit more critical and analytical of others, be cautious. However this is a good time to organize our life. We would be more health conscious and would aim for high perfection for the time around the Full Moon.

April 6, 2023 – Full Moon in Libra- Pink Moon

In April, the fourth Full Moon for 2023 occurs in the zodiac sign of Libra on the 6th which would be a Thursday at 12:34 a.m. EDT or 5:34 a.m. UTC. This Full Moon would also be called as the Pink Moon because in North America around this time spring emerges bringing with it bright pink flower blooms all around. The full Moon of June 2023 will also be known as the Strawberry Moon and will take place on June 3 at 11:42 p.m. EDT or June 4, 2023 at 4:42 a.m. UTC. The June full moon will be the full moon in the sign of Sagittarius. This Full Moon is named after the fruit of strawberry because this is a June -bearing fruit. This full Moon is also known as the Flower Moon or the Rose Moon.

The Full Moon in Sagittarius guides us in starting certain things and to become more assertive in life. Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius would make us more ambitious and would get things done for us in a positive way. Around this Full Moon there would be a need for more adventure , fun and freedom. July 3, 2023 – Full Moon in Capricorn- Buck Moon

This Full Moon is also termed as the Buck Moon because Buck or Male deer start growing their antlers every year around this time. This is also known as Thunder Moon or Hay Moon.

A Super Moon is when the Moon comes closest to the Earth in its elliptic orbit resulting in a larger than usual size of the Moon being visible from the earth.

The Full Moon is also known as the Sturgeon Moon, because the Sturgeon fish would be abundant around August in most of North America. The full Moon is also called as the Grain Moon or the Green Corn Moon.

The first super Moon of August occurs in the zodiac sign of Aquarius. This brings about radical energy to the fore. This would widen our thought process and we would be mentally stimulated around this day. August 30, 2023 – Full Moon in Pisces- Blue Moon

There would be yet another Full Moon in August 2023 on the 30th :35 p.m. EDT or August 31, 2023 at 2:35 a.m. UTC. As this is the second full Moon for the month  it is also called as a Blue Moon, a blue Moon is called so because a second Full Moon in a month happens very rarely. This full Moon would be found in the sign of Pisces and would be the biggest of all the Full Moon of 2023.

September 29, 2023- Full Moon in Aries- Harvest Moon – Penumbral Lunar Eclipse

In September, the Full Moon would be on the 29th at 5:57 AM EDT or 10:57 AM UTC which would be a Friday. This Full Moon occurs in the zodiac house of Aries and would be a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. This is also called as the Harvest Moon as this occurs around the harvest season in North America. This is also called as the Fruit Moon, may be when the fruit-trees start yielding, and that’s a guess!!

November 27, 2023- Full Moon in Gemini- Beaver Moon

Around this time, it is said that Beavers would be busy preparing dams for the ensuing winter season and hence the name.
