Emu Plains woman has eyes on Miss Universe Australia title
PENRITH will have extra reason to follow the Miss Universe Australia modelling contest with Emu Plains beauty Hayley Williams reaching the state finals.
The Tamworth-born blonde survived the testing NSW elimination round at Rosehill Gardens racecourse to make it to the finals at the Sofitel Wentworth Hotel tomorrow.
“I had an amazing day with the girls and being in the event was a such a great experience,” Ms Williams, 27, said. “I was just happy I got as far as I did, let alone being able to go into the state finals.
“I will definitely be telling my grandchildren about it, that’s for sure.”
An area manager for a women’s fashion store, she has previously been a finalist at the Miss Bikini World contest in 2005. She also had a small acting role in Looking for Alibrandi in 2000. “My mother entered me for drama classes because I was a shy girl,” she said.
Having entered the contest after her brother Luke dowloaded an application for her, Ms Williams decided she would have fun and give it her best shot. “You live only once and I don’t want to have any regrets,” said the country girl who moved to Emu Plains when she was nine.
“I want to have fun, otherwise it is not worth taking part.”
During the NSW preliminary, she picked a question from the bowl: “What is the best gift you have ever given someone?”
She answered knowledge. “A person can take and keep it for the rest of their life,” she said.
The preliminary was an emotional time for Ms Williams because she remembered her mother Patricia, who died of cancer last August.
“My mother was a very strong-willed woman who was given three months to live after being diagnosed with cancer,” she said.
“But she said she had a lot to live for, changed her lifestyle and only ate organic and raw foods. She did meditation and influenced all of us as she recovered to live another 13 years.” Ms Williams leads an active life, riding her father’s horses regularly, jogging, practising martial arts and yoga, dancing and drama.
“I am also studying image consulting and hope to help women feel better about themselves,” she said.
