Top Model"s Michaela eyes international career
CHRISTCHURCH"S Michaela Steenkamp may have missed out on winning New Zealand"s Next Top Model contest but she promises it"s not the last you"ll see of her. The 16-year-old Burnside High School student, who came runner-up in the competition, has already been offered a contract with show host Sara Tetro"s agency 62 Models.
Miss Steenkamp said she did not see winner Danielle Hayes as a threat early on in the competition. Instead, she was eying up contestants Elza Jenkins and Courtenay Scott-Hill."Danielle was never really my competitor back in the top six," she said. Miss Steenkamp said it was hard when her picture did not come up as the winner in the final episode.
"Everything just kind of went blank for a second. It was just a let down," she said. Miss Steenkamp said yesterday that although her journey on Top Model had come to an end, her modelling career was just getting started. Miss Steenkamp said she had ambitions to walk the runway overseas."It"s definitely not the last you"re going to see of me. I don"t think my life is ever going to be the same," she said.
Miss Steenkamp, who had never modelled before the competition, said she did not expect to get as far as she did. "Even making it into the top 10 was amazing. I didn"t think I would get to top two," she said. But in the final it set-in she could actually win. "I thought I had a really good chance at winning. I did my best," she said.
"A lot of people have told me it"s a good thing that I didn"t win - you can decide where you"re going to go to from here."
