NZ"s Next Top Model: Amelia packs her bags
otorua"s Amelia Gough has said goodbye to the New Zealand"s Next Top Model house. The Rotorua 22-year-old was eliminated from the New Zealand"s Next Top Model show on Friday night, after falling into the bottom two alongside Nellie Jenkins.Amelia said she was not surprised when she was eliminated.
Amelia said she had been told she was not built for international modelling."But I got so far and, to make it as far as I did, I"m really happy."I loved every minute of it. I wouldn"t trade it for anything."She said taking part in the competition had been an "amazing experience" and she had been "really surprised" to be selected as one of the top 13. "Getting into the house was just so exciting".
As she left she told the other girls to "chase the dream, not the competition".In last night"s episode, judge Sara Tetro arrived at the top model house and took a single Polaroid photograph of Amelia and the other top model hopefuls. The girls were told to look "warm and commercial". All Black Dan Carter was brought in to give his opinion on the models" pictures and made an impression with the girls.
The contestants also undertook a challenge in which they had to promote a Herbal Essences product on the streets of Auckland - the first time the girls had gone out in public together. During the challenge, someone hurled a racial slur at Amelia.
Amelia said she was "disgusted" that there were still people in New Zealand with that sort of attitude."I was quite taken aback by that because I haven"t had anything like that since I was a child." She said New Zealand was a multi-ethnic society and people should just "get over it". Despite that one negative experience, Amelia said her time on the show was invaluable, and the opportunity to have one-on-one time with top names in the fashion industry was "amazing".
"All the modelling we did, the photo shoots, the lessons learned were just priceless." The girls also did a photo shoot for Smoke Free and had to come up with quotes to go best with their pictures. Tetro said Nellie"s photo left her "cold", which was why she landed in the bottom two for the elimination.
Amelia said she was doing some work as an extra and keeping one foot in the modelling world. She hoped to go to Japan eventually and would "definitely" want to model in Japan.
