EPIDOTE

Overview:   Epidote usually occurs in high-pressure, low-temperature calcium-bearing metamorphic rocks and as precipitates from magmatic fluids in igneous formations. Epidote is best known among mineral collectors for its unique green color described as "pistachio", which is quite striking in well-colored specimens.

Epidote is the iron-rich end member of a solid solution series with aluminum-rich clinozoisite. Epidote is not commonly cut and polished as a precious stone because the crystals rarely are clear or large enough to facet.

Usage:   Epidote is noted for its ability of enhancing perception and intuition, supplementing personal power, and increasing spirituality and spiritual growth. The epidote is a medicating influence, and may be carried on or about the person to ensure protection against confliciting circumstances. Drastically clears the emotional body aura. Enhances perceptions and helps the nervous system. It soothes the emotional and physical bodies, stills fear, and lessens the frequency of panic and anxiety attacks. Epidote also works to heal intestinal blockages due to nervous disorders affecting the stomach.

Legend: The name Epidote is from the Greek ‘Epidosis’ meaning “Addition” or “Increase”. This may refer to the fact that some of the mineral's prism faces in a mass form are longer than others.

Occurrence:   Austria, Switzerland, France, Finland, Norway, Italy, Czechoslovakia, Kenya, Madagascar, Australia, Japan, Korea, China, Mexico, and the United States.
