CHRYSOBERYL

Overview: Chrysoberyl is composed of Beryllium Aluminium Oxide. Chrysoberyl is a hard, tough, and durable gem. Chrysoberyl gems are yellow, and some are brown or green. There are two very rare varieties of chrysoberyl, the color changing alexandrite and the chatoyant cymophane.

Usage: Chrysoberyl is said to assist one in striving for excellence, and to bring peace of mind and increased self-confidence. It enhances the healing properties of other stones, and to treat disorders of the pancreas, liver and kidneys. Chrysoberyl is very durable and well suited for virtually all jewelry settings. It facilitates out-of-body journeys.

Legend: The name Chrysoberyl is of ancient origin, "beryl" being derived from the Greek word given to green gemstones, and "chryso" meaning golden. Chrysoberyl was very popular in Victorian and Edwardian times, when it was often inaccurately called Chrysolite.

Occurrence: Chrysolite occurs in Russia, Mogok, Pegu, Myanmar (Burma), Sri Lanka and in the USA.
