APATITE

Overview: The name Apatite comes from the Greek word "apate" that means "to deceive" in allusion to its similarity to other more valuable minerals such as olivine, peridot and beryl. Apatite is composed of three different minerals depending on the predominance of either fluorine, chlorine or the hydroxyl group.

Apatite is Calcium Phosphate combined with fluorine, chlorine or hydroxyl. Spanish Apatite is often called "asparagus stone" due to its yellowish-green color.

Usage: Apatite is a stone that mystically can stimulate the thoughts and ideas. It is said to help you maintain focus, learn, concentrate effectively, think clearly, and communicate better. It is a source of phosphorus for plants and is used in the manufacture of fertilizers. It is a stone that many psychics use for it helps to open the third eye and brings revelations closer. Apatite is used to bring love, harmony and peace. It is also helpful for fighting viruses.

Legend: Apatite has been associated with appetite suppression for centuries.While the Apatite has a long history with humans, there seems to be very few traditions associated with it.

Occurrence: Apatite deposits are found in Burma (Myanmar), Brazil, India, Kenya, Madagascar, Mexico, Norway, Sri Lanka, East and South Africa, Spain, Russia (Kola Peninsula), Canada, and the United States.
