This major event culminates with various religious and cultural events across the globe.

It is also a time to take new resolutions in life.The Winter Solstice is the time when the Sun halts over the Tropic of Capricorn (23°S26') for some three days at the end of its tropical journey south, before recommencing its tropical journey north. This, the longest night of the year occurs on December 21st for the year 2012.
