It was during the liberation movement when Cuba got independence from Spain n1848 this particular flag was designed and was hoisted for the first time in 1850 at Cardenas unofficially.

Later on May 20, 1902 the national flag of Cuba was officially adopted only when they were granted independence by

the United States and the same flag is maintained till now even after the Communist revolution in 1959.The flag of Cuba consists of five horizontal stripes alternated by blue and white colour where it is bordered by blue at the upper and lower portion of the flag and one in the centre. In between these there are two stripes of white band. There is an equilateral red triangle in t.he hoist side placed horizontally and pointing inwards or to the centre of the flag. There is a white five pointed star in the middle of the triangle. The triangle represents individuation and it is a symbol of Masonic where its colour red is to denote the bloodshed by the revolutionary heroes. The three sides of the triangle are to signify liberty, equality and fraternity. The star in the centre of the triangle denotes the unity of the people of Cuba. The blue stripes in the flag was originally light blue in colour and it signifies the three provinces of Cuba, namely Western, Central and Eastern. The two white stripes represent the motives of the people of Cuba which is purity and justice.
